Boutique Accommodations in Virginia

Whether you are looking for historic properties (and it doesn’t get more historic than Virginia!) or cozy bed and breakfasts, you can find all kinds of boutique accommodations in Virgina. We certainly did.

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia

THE MORRISON HOUSE in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia

Morrison House Entrance Morrison House a 4-diamond property in Alexandria

Alexandria is absolutely charming, from its cobblestoned streets to its historic row houses, so why not stay in a boutique hotel just as characteristic. The Morrison House is just such a place. The Morrison is actually part of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection of properties, which are unique, exclusive hotels that have a much more intimate vibe than their larger hotels – something we loved. From a complimentary glass of bubbly offered to us one afternoon (‘just because they had some on hand’) to the cozy room itself, this hotel felt like it welcomed us with open arms.

The other thing that is perfect about the Morrison House is its location: steps from main street with its boutiques, restaurants and cafes, this makes a perfect base for exploring everything Alexandria offers.

HAYMARKET, Virginia

THE INN AT EVERGREEN, Haymarket, Virginia

The Inn at Evergreen property Virginia

Haymarket is in Prince William County, which is known for its historic civil war sites where some of the most important battles were fought. So what better place to stay than in an original civil war-era mansion that has been lovingly restored into an elegant boutique hotel. This is the Inn at Evergreen.

Each of the 11 suites at the Evergreen boasts unique decor, some with pastel colours and romantic furniture, others with elaborate millwork, and there’s even one located in what was originally the mansion’s kitchen, complete with fireplace and kettle.

But every suite offers the highest standard of luxury. It’s no surprise that this property is popular for weddings and books up most weekends, as the country setting is absolutely beautiful as well. Lucky for us, we were visiting during the week, and got to enjoy all the mansion had to offer, including the lovely breakfast room where we enjoyed eggs benedict while admiring the views.

WATERFORD, Virginia

WHEATLAND SPRING B&B, Waterford Virginia

Wheatland Spring B&B Viginia This cozy cottage with a bedroom loft is on a beautiful property in Loudon County

This pretty standalone cottage couldn’t be more welcoming, with its country-chic decor, plank flooring and comfy upstairs bedroom loft with ensuite. If that isn’t enough, the owners also provide plenty of snacks and nibbles in the fully equipped kitchen, and in the morning you can look forward to a basket of locally-sourced goodies that they provide for breakfast.

TIP: The stairs to the loft are a bit steep, so leave your bags below and just take what you need upstairs.

STAUNTON, Virginia

THE BLACKBURN INN, Staunton

Why just stay in an ‘ordinary’ historic hotel, when you can stay in one with a very storied past. Take the Blackburn Inn in Staunton, for example.

Staunton Blackburn Hotel Virginia night

This boutique hotel with conference centre has served many functions in its 200-year history, including as a mental hospital in the mid 1800s. Yes, you read that right, but don’t let that fact freak you out: the rooms and amenities are top-notch and the mansion’s elegant features (like the spiral staircase to the rooftop cupola) give this property anything BUT an institutional vibe. LURAY, Virginia

THE MIMSLYN INN, Luray

Luray may be a tiny town, but most people come here for one of Virginia’s biggest visitor attractions: the stunning Luray Caverns. So why not stay in an historic property that is as close to the Caverns as you can get and make this a real vacation?

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia

THE DOYLE INN, Charlottesville

Quirk Hotel room Charlottesville VA

The Quirk Hotel (that opened in 2020) in downtown Charlottesville has been recently sold and is now known as the Doyle Inn, but fortunately the new owners kept some of the best features of this modern boutique hotel. The funky interior design of the lobby and bar, the contemporary art gallery on-site, and the amazing rooftop bar are just a few reasons why even locals love to hang out at this property.

We think you will too, since this hotel is also ideally situated close to everything you want to see and do in and around Charlottesville.

WYTHEVILLE, Virginia

THE TRINKLE MANSION, Wytheville

Trinkle Mansion B&B Wytheville Virginia

This historic, beautifully restored mansion in the centre of Wytheville is everything you want in a bed and breakfast property: the common rooms are elegant and traditional; the bedrooms and ensuites are large and tastefully decorated with antiques and personal touches; and the breakfasts are gourmet-inspired.

The hosts have put their heart and soul into this property, and it shows in their hospitality and in their attention to detail. If you love B&B accommodations, you’ll love the Trinkle.
