Grownup Accommodations
Boutique Accommodations in Newfoundland and Labrador
Anyone who has ever been to this part of Canada knows that almost all the places you will find to stay in the outports will be unique or boutique accommodations. There are of course, exceptions, like the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s, Newfoundland, but where’s the fun in that?
BONAVISTA, Newfoundland
RUSSELTOWN INN, Bonavista
One of Russeltown’s houses & our loft room in the Gosling Cottage
The Russeltown Inn is not one, but many different properties that have been brought under one name. Some of these are rooms in renovated historic homes, like two that we stayed in that were mere steps from the main street in Bonavista. We spent a night in the Carlton Suite in the Gosling Cottage, and one in the Bonavista Suite in Jubilee House and both were beautifully decorated, with luxurious linens on their beds, and separate sitting areas where we could relax. The Inn was beautiful, well run, and even provided a boxed breakfast in the mornings to get us started on our day. Probably the loveliest place to stay in Bonavista (at least in our opinion).

BONNE BAY/WOODY POINT, West Coast
THE BONNE BAY INN, Woody Point
Bonne Bay Inn offers water views from every room
A favourite with all their guests, the Bonne Bay Inn has only 10 rooms, so it doesn’t get more ’boutique’ than that. And every single room has a window that overlooks the beautiful Bonne Bay after which the Inn is named. Even the lounge area has these same water views where guests can use the binoculars and watch for whales who often come right into the Bay. Better yet, grab a cocktail from the bar and enjoy that while you watch for wildlife or relax after having hiked the world famous UNESCO-designated Tablelands.
NEDDIES HARBOUR, West Coast
NEDDIES HARBOUR INN, Norris Point, Gros Morne National Park
Neddies Inn in Norris Point overlooks the water
Located right in the heart of Gros Morne National park, Neddies Harbour Inn offers more than just location, location, location with proximity to Gros Morne and stellar views from its expansive sunroom and deck. Its Black Spruce Restaurant is one of the region’s best for locally-sourced gourmet dining and a must-do for anyone in this part of western Newfoundland. Rooms here aren’t fancy, but they are modern and offer only-in-Newfoundland touches, like toilet tissue folded into the shape of a sailboat.

ROCKY HARBOUR, West Coast
GROS MORNE CABINS, Rocky Harbour
A string of colourful oceanfront Gros Morne Cabins in Rocky Harbour
If the aroma of clothesline-dried linens and hand-made quilts made by local women strike a nostalgic chord with you, you will love the cabins here at Rocky Harbour. Those kinds of personal touches are what make these 1 and 2-bedroom cabins feel like your own cottage, not just a rental. And its why many people make these their base for longer stays to explore Gros Morne National Park. They are fully-equipped with kitchens, too, if you want to make your own meals. They have a pretty impressive ‘front yard’, too, perched as they are on the edge of the water.
