At first glance, the Atomium looks like something that belongs on the set of a sci-fi movie in a galaxy far, far away – not perched on the outskirts of the European Union’s capital city. After all, Brussels is home to the historic Grand Place, a Gothic and Baroque architectural gem considered by many to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Yet it is its futuristic style that makes the Atomium in Brussels so intriguing, and one of the reasons why, after seeing it for the first time in a documentary, Henk and I knew it was on our must-do list if we were ever in Brussels.
Celebrating Death & Life in San Antonio, Texas
It’s my first visit to San Antonio, Texas, and I have specifically timed our visit to take in the annual Day of the Dead celebrations, knowing that this is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States. The colourful imagery associated with this Mexican festival has always attracted me, but as I learned more about the origins and significance of Día de los Muertos, I realized that there was much more to this festival than meets the eye.
