Celebrating Death & Life in San Antonio, Texas
It’s my first visit to San Antonio, Texas, and I have specifically timed our visit to take in the annual Day of the Dead celebrations, knowing that this is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States. The colourful imagery associated with this Mexican festival has always attracted me, but as I learned more about the origins and significance of Día de los Muertos, I realized that there was much more to this festival than meets the eye.
A 2-Day Photography Road Trip to Bonavista, Newfoundland
With almost 10,000 kilometres of rugged coastline zig-zagging in and out of its coves and inlets, Newfoundland is a photographer’s dream destination. But where to start when you are looking for the best locations? After doing our research and asking the advice of some in-the-know locals, we set our sights on the Bonavista Peninsula and headed off with a rental car, a battery of memory cards, and high expectations. We weren’t disappointed.

I really wasn’t prepared for my reaction when I first saw the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.
Henk and I had been travelling through Normandy, as part of the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, following in the footsteps of artists like Claude Monet, and visiting places like Giverny, Rouen and Honfleur, where painters were inspired to change the way the world looked at art.
So on an impulse, we decided to stop by to see the World War I Canadian memorial there, since we were ‘in the neighbourhood’…
